THE BRIDGING PROGRAMME
Aims:
The aim
is to prepare the young child for formal learning.
 | We aim
to develop the child holistically. The aim is to create a stimulating
environment where he is actively participating in physical, emotional, social,
creative, intellectual and cognitive stimuli. |
 | This
is on the assumption that each child is a unique individual who will develop
at his own pace thereby learning in his own way. |
 | It
offers learning activities where he will expand his existing knowledge and
experiences through play, preparing him for the demands of formal learning. |
 | It
demands total and active participation from the child. |
The
educators strive to create and stimulating, safe environment in the classroom
where the child can learn in a happy, self-assured manner. She will assess him
continually and keep the parents updated with his progress. Parents and
educators should aim to have frank and honest discussions aiming at laying a
sound foundation for the further education of the child. All forms of creative
play are a fundamental part of the child’s education.
Children
in the Grade R class learn through playing, singing and laughing. They are not
expected to be class bound; they are not expected to “work” until break and then
only play. The curriculum is wide and focuses on individual needs. The approach
of the school is flexible and aimed at the development of intelligence, skills
and creativity. At five years, the child learns best through personal
experiences.
LEARNING
THROUGH PLAY:
The Value
of play.
 |
Intellectual – Play helps children to concentrate, reason, and organize their
thoughts. As a result they learn to solve problems. |
 | Social
– The child learns to give, take turns and co-operate. During social
interaction he reveals the strengths and weaknesses in his character. |
 |
Emotional – Play helps the child develop in a positive manner. It gives him
the opportunity to express his emotions. Play should be a pleasant experience
that helps to de-stress. |
 |
Physical – Play helps to expend extra energy. It equips him to release stress
and to express himself through actions. It helps to develop his motor skills
and a strong healthy body. |
 |
Language – He learns to share his ideas and communicate with others. |
