COMPUTERS - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

CLASSROOMS
All classrooms from Gr. R – 7 have been equipped with a computer connected to the Internet 24/7, since 2005.  Therefore, teachers and learners are on top of the latest news and happenings around the world.  Any information, pictures and graphs are available at the press of a button.

DATA VIDEO PROJECTORS AND INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS

All the Grades R to 7 are equipped with fixed data video projectors AND Interactive Whiteboards.

This technology makes it possible for Teachers to deliver curriculum to the boys in big screen format - as these boards are connected to the internet 24/7 any information can be displayed in every class immediately.

Paarl Boys' Primary is the only school in Paarl (and one of the few schools in the country) with this facility available in every classroom.  Please feel free to visit our school for a demonstration.

The use of Interactive Whiteboards has made it possible for teachers to demonstrate relevant teaching material in "big screen" format, as this visual form of teaching (in teaching in general) has been neglected for the past few years, as school was not prepared to invest any more money old fashioned overhead projectors and/or slide projectors. 

Teaching has become a dull event for our children as they are bombarded with technology and the world in full colour and motion (outside the classroom) - on TV, but also in all other forms of visual stimulation they receive.

The use of full screen Interactive Whiteboards and 24/7 internet access in the classrooms (Gr R - 7), makes it possible for our teachers to present relevant and visual stimulating material to our children.

COMPUTER CENTRE

Paarl Boys’ Primary has two fully equipped computer centres with 45 and 25 computers respectively.
Each class has :
weekly 60 minutes research period (Grade 4 – 7)
weekly 30 minutes mathematics period (CAMI)
weekly 60 minute computer skills period
Computer Programmes:
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher, Front Page) Each teacher and learner has their own e-mail address which can be accessed from any computer inside and outside the school.

E-SCHOOL (distance education)

By means of the Internet, e-mail and the latest hardware and software (Netop School, Skype, Forums, web cameras, headphones, etc.) teachers and learners can communicate.
It is also possible to teach two classes in two different locations at the same time by making use of video and audio equipment.
